Hataitai Compact Home

Our clients sought a design solution for a compact, 2 bedroom cost-effective second dwelling in Hataitai, adhering to the district plan’s new Medium Density rules.

The project aimed to maximise space efficiency by utilising volume to create a spacious feel, inspired by the principles of tiny home design. To control costs, we conceived a split-level home that seamlessly integrates with the sloped backyard, minimising earthworks. Utilising economical claddings, proprietary glazed canopy systems, and a straightforward structure keeping the footprint at only 50m2 further contributed to cost efficiency.

Situated on an elevated site, the home capitalises on abundant sunlight and scenic views overlooking Evans Bay, while ensuring privacy from the existing front home.

This new, energy-efficient dwelling will serve as guest accommodation and an Airbnb, providing additional income for our clients.
